The 1st Punta Sayulita Surf Classic was held on April 17 & 18, 2009. Part of the proceeds will go to fund Punta Sayulita's Adopt a Reef Program. This includes the training of a group of local divers in the Reef Check methodology, and annual monitoring of reefs in front of Punta Sayulita. Other projects planned include the creation of a coral garden inside the bay, and the transplant of coral to an area near Punta Mita.
