Dr. Matias Nochetto and Eric Douglas of the Divers Alert Network, in collaboration with Reef Check, visited Isla Natividad this July to conduct a technical assessment of the hyperbaric chamber and its operators. In addition to this assessment, Matias and Eric held a questions & answers meeting for community members to discuss topics related to dive decompression. Two workshops were also held where divers and their work teams (Coop. divers dive on hookah and are assisted by two men on the surface) practiced delivery of emergency oxygen.

Their visit is part of the efforts to assist the community of Natividad in improving their infrastructure and skills to promote sustainable dive tourism on the island. The goal is that over time income generated through tourism serves to compensate the cost of implementing the marine reserves.
